Governor signs act relating to sexual assault nurse examiners into law
A House bill (HB134) that aims to enhance the role of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners has been signed into law by the Governor. The legislation, titled "AN ACT relating to sexual assault nurse examiners," seeks to improve the care and support provided to victims of sexual assault through better training and certification standards for these specialized nurses.
The bill's chief sponsor is Representative R. Raymer from District 15, with seven co-sponsors including B. Chester-Burton and C. Aull. The legislation outlines measures to ensure that Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners receive comprehensive training and are certified by recognized organizations, thereby enhancing the quality of care for victims.
The bill has now been signed into law after passing both chambers without opposition. It was passed in the House on March 19 with a vote of 37-0 and later received unanimous approval from the Senate on March 30 with a vote of 91-0. Following its passage, it was enrolled and delivered to the Governor, who signed it into law on April 9, making it official state legislation.
