Kentucky health insurance plans regulated by the state will be required to cover hearing aids and related services under House Bill 164, which Gov. Andy Beshear signed on April 2. The bill adds hearing aids to the list of mandatory health benefits that insurers must include in policies sold in Kentucky.
The House passed HB164 unanimously, 93-0, on Feb. 1. The Senate cleared the bill 38-0 on March 24, sending it to the governor with no votes against it in either chamber.
Rep. Heavrin is the primary sponsor. The bill picked up bipartisan co-sponsors: Reps. Brown Jr. and Grossberg, both Democrats, alongside Republican Rep. Johnson.
