A House bill (HB212) aimed at updating regulations for rabies vaccinations has been signed into law by the Governor. The legislation, titled "AN ACT relating to rabies vaccinations," seeks to enhance public health and safety through more stringent requirements for pet owners.

The new law mandates that all dogs, cats and ferrets receive regular rabies vaccinations from a licensed veterinarian. It also establishes penalties for non-compliance and provides guidelines for veterinarians on record-keeping and reporting.

HB212 was chiefly sponsored by Representative S. Witten of District 31, with co-sponsorship from three other legislators including C. Freeland and D. Grossberg. The bill passed unanimously in both the House and Senate before being signed into law.

The Governor has now signed HB212 into law as Acts Ch. 104, marking its final step in becoming a state statute. The new regulations will take effect immediately, providing clearer guidelines for pet owners and veterinarians across Kentucky.
