Kentucky Governor signs HB 264 into law to combat theft by deception

A House bill aimed at strengthening laws against theft by deception has been signed into law by the Governor. The legislation, titled "AN ACT relating to theft by deception," aims to enhance penalties and clarify legal definitions related to deceptive practices.

HB264 is designed to provide clearer guidelines for prosecuting cases involving theft through deceitful means. It seeks to protect consumers and businesses from fraudulent activities by tightening regulations and increasing potential penalties for offenders.

The bill was chiefly sponsored by Representative M. Proctor, with co-authors including C. Lewis and D. Grossberg. The legislation received broad support throughout its journey through both chambers of the Kentucky General Assembly.

Having been passed by both the House and Senate, HB264 has now been enrolled and signed into law by the Governor, marking a significant step in strengthening legal protections against theft by deception in Kentucky.
