Governor signs insurance regulatory bill into law
A House bill that aims to streamline regulatory authorizations by the commissioner of insurance has been signed into law by Governor Beshear. The legislation, known as HB265, seeks to provide clearer guidelines and processes for obtaining necessary approvals from the state's insurance commissioner.
The bill, titled "AN ACT relating to regulatory authorizations by the commissioner of insurance," aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in the insurance sector by establishing more defined procedures for regulatory authorization. This will likely impact both insurance companies and consumers by potentially reducing bureaucratic delays.
HB265 was chiefly sponsored by Representative M. Meredith from District 19, with co-sponsorship from Representatives D. Grossberg and E. Hancock. The bill has now been signed into law after passing through both the House and Senate without opposition.
The legislation has cleared all legislative hurdles and was enrolled before being signed by Governor Beshear on April 09, 2026, officially becoming law as Acts Ch. 84.
