Governor signs HB 313 into law

By Samantha Jones with assistance from Alex Smith

A House bill (HB313) that relates to city franchises has been signed into law by Governor Beshear. The legislation aims to update and streamline the process for cities to grant franchises, which are agreements allowing companies to provide services like electricity or water within a municipality.

The bill was chiefly sponsored by Representative R. Bivens of District 24, with one co-author, Representative White. It passed both chambers without opposition, receiving final approval in the House on March 30 and in the Senate on March 25.

Having been enrolled and signed by both the Speaker of the House and the President of the Senate, HB313 was delivered to the Governor and has now been signed into law as Acts Chapter 108.
