Governor signs law banning possession of child sexual exploitation material
A House bill (HB366) that prohibits the possession or viewing of material depicting a minor in a sexual performance has been signed into law by the Governor. The legislation aims to strengthen protections for minors and penalize those who engage with such exploitative content.
The bill, titled "AN ACT relating to possession or viewing of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor," criminalizes the act of possessing or viewing any material that depicts a minor in a sexually explicit manner. It seeks to address the growing concern over child exploitation online and offline.
Chief sponsor DJ Johnson from District 13 led the bill, with co-authors D. Grossberg and K. Moser supporting the initiative. The legislation passed unanimously in both chambers before being signed into law by the Governor on April 12, 2026.
The bill has now been enrolled and signed into law, marking a significant step in enhancing legal protections against child exploitation.
