Kentucky Governor signs HB 490 into law

A House bill that aims to reform employment practices at public postsecondary education institutions in Kentucky has been signed into law. The legislation, titled "AN ACT relating to employment at public postsecondary education institutions and declaring an emergency," seeks to address various aspects of hiring and retention within these educational bodies.

The bill's chief sponsor is Representative A. Thompson from District 98, with co-author J. Tipton also supporting the measure. It has garnered support across both chambers of the legislature.

HB490 has now been signed into law by the Governor after being enrolled and passed through both the House and Senate. The bill was delivered to the Secretary of State on April 13, 2026, as Acts Chapter 169.
