Governor Andy Beshear has signed HB58, a House bill aimed at enhancing privacy protections for Kentucky residents, into law. The legislation, titled "AN ACT relating to privacy protection," seeks to strengthen existing laws and provide clearer guidelines on how personal data should be handled.

HB58 includes provisions that restrict the collection and use of personal information by businesses and government entities. It also establishes penalties for violations and sets forth requirements for companies to obtain consent before collecting sensitive data from individuals.

The bill was sponsored by Representative J. Hodgson, with 22 co-sponsors including C. Lewis and D. Elliott. The legislation has now been signed into law after passing both chambers of the Kentucky General Assembly.

The bill has cleared multiple readings in both the House and Senate and has been enrolled and signed by the Speaker of the House and President of the Senate before being delivered to and signed by Governor Beshear, making it official state law.
