Gov. Andy Beshear signed Senate Bill 102 on April 8, putting in place a package of updates to the statutes that govern Kentucky State Police operations. The bill carries an emergency clause, meaning it took effect on the governor's signature rather than waiting the usual 90 days after the legislative session adjourns.

Both chambers cleared SB102 without a single no vote. The Senate passed the original version 38-0 on Feb. 2. The House added two floor amendments and passed the bill 93-0 on March 25. The Senate then concurred in the House amendments 38-0 on March 30, sending it to the governor's desk.

Sen. Reed is the primary sponsor. Sen. Deneen co-sponsored. Both are Republicans.
