Senate bill on sick leave for school personnel advances to House committee
A Senate bill (SB124) that aims to provide sick leave for school district personnel has advanced to the House Appropriations & Revenue Committee after being recommitted there from the floor. The bill, titled "AN ACT relating to sick leave for school district personnel," seeks to establish a comprehensive sick leave policy for employees in Kentucky's public schools.
The legislation would ensure that all school district personnel have access to paid sick leave, addressing concerns about employee health and well-being. It includes provisions for accumulating and using sick days, as well as guidelines for how the leave will be managed by school districts.
Chief sponsor M. Nunn of District 117 leads the bill, which has five co-sponsors including A. Reed and D. Douglas. The bill's chief author aims to improve working conditions and support the health needs of educators and other school staff.
The bill now moves to the House Appropriations & Revenue Committee for further consideration. If approved by this committee, it will proceed through additional readings in the House before potentially heading back to the Senate for concurrence if changes are made.
