Governor signs provisional medical license act into law
A Senate bill allowing for a provisional license to practice medicine has been signed into law by Governor Beshear. The legislation, known as SB137, aims to provide a pathway for individuals to gain practical experience under supervision before obtaining full licensure.
The bill's chief sponsor is Senator S. Meredith from District 105, with co-author D. Carroll also supporting the measure. It has garnered support from both chambers of the Kentucky legislature and now becomes law following the Governor’s signature.
SB137 has cleared both chambers after passing in the House on March 30 by a vote of 79-11 and receiving final approval in the Senate. The bill was enrolled and signed into law, officially becoming Chapter 89 of the Acts of 2026.
