A Senate bill aimed at reforming the Department of Corrections has been signed into law by the Governor. The legislation, titled "AN ACT relating to the Department of Corrections," seeks to enhance oversight and improve conditions within state correctional facilities.

The bill's chief sponsor is Senator S. West from District 127, with one co-author, M. Nunn. It includes provisions that aim to increase transparency and accountability within the Department of Corrections, as well as measures to address inmate rehabilitation and safety.

SB251 has now been enrolled and signed by both the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House before being delivered to the Secretary of State on April 13, 2026. The bill is now law and will be codified as Acts Chapter 181.
