A Senate bill aimed at motor vehicles (SB30) has been signed into law by Governor, marking a significant change in vehicle regulations.

The bill, titled "AN ACT relating to motor vehicles," introduces new provisions affecting the registration and operation of motor vehicles. It includes amendments that clarify existing laws and add new requirements for vehicle safety inspections and emissions testing.

Chief sponsor G. Elkins from District 128 led the effort, with co-author R. Girdler supporting the legislation. The bill has been endorsed by a wide range of stakeholders including automotive industry representatives and environmental groups.

SB30 has now become law after passing both chambers of the Kentucky General Assembly and being signed by the Governor on April 12, 2026. It was enrolled and signed by both the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House before its final approval.
