Governor signs behavioral health act into law
A Senate bill aimed at enhancing behavioral health services in Kentucky has been signed into law by Governor Beshear. The legislation, known as SB90, seeks to improve access and quality of care for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders.
The bill's provisions include expanding funding for mental health programs, increasing training for healthcare providers and improving coordination between state agencies to better support those in need. It also aims to reduce barriers to treatment by streamlining the process for accessing services.
Chief sponsor Senator B. Storm of District 121 led the effort, with co-authors D. Carroll and M. Deneen supporting the bill. The legislation passed unanimously in both chambers before being signed into law.
The bill has now been enrolled and signed by Governor Beshear, making it official state law. It will take effect immediately, providing new resources and support for Kentuckians seeking behavioral health services.
