By Alex Smith

Michigan HB 4935 has passed both chambers of the Legislature and is now heading to the governor. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Parker Fairbairn with 10 co-sponsors, would enact the Dentist and Dental Hygienist Compact in Michigan by amending the state's Public Health Code and adding new sections governing dental health occupations licensure. The most recent action occurred on May 19, 2026, when the House passed the bill with immediate effect. (source: https://openstates.org/mi/bills/2025-2026/HB4935/)

The bill cleared the House on May 14, 2026, on a roll call vote of 94 yeas and 10 nays, with 6 members not voting. It was then referred to the Senate Committee on Health Policy on May 19 before clearing that chamber the same day. The bill had been reported out of committee without amendment on April 30, 2026, prior to its House floor votes.

The bill now goes to the governor for consideration.
