Michigan HB 5329 passes both chambers, heads to governor for signature

By Alex Smith

Michigan HB 5329 has passed both chambers of the Legislature and is now heading to the governor. The bill, if signed, would prohibit the use of state funds for the purchase of certain drones by amending the State Management Act of 1984.

Primary sponsor Josh Schriver, joined by 23 co-sponsors, introduced the measure in the House. The bill passed the House on May 13, 2026, by a vote of 57 to 49 with 4 members not voting, and was given immediate effect. It was then referred to the Senate Committee on Appropriations before passing that chamber with immediate effect on May 19, 2026. The bill is tied to HB 5330 of the 2025 session. The bill now goes to the governor, whose signature or veto will determine its fate.
