Minnesota House and Senate approve bill allowing gifts for public safety officers killed in duty
A bill allowing local governments to accept certain gifts related to a public safety officer's line of duty death has been passed by both chambers of the Minnesota Legislature. The legislation, known as HF124, also authorizes local government expenditure for public safety officers killed in the line of duty.
The bill, titled "Acceptance of certain gifts related to a line of duty death of a public safety officer allowed and local government expenditure authorized for public safety officer killed in line of duty," aims to provide support and recognition for families of fallen public safety officers by allowing them to accept gifts and enabling local governments to allocate funds.
The bill was chiefly sponsored by Representative Berg, with 11 co-sponsors including Bahner and Curran. After passing through the House, it was amended and repassed as amended by the Senate on April 21, 2025.
Having cleared both chambers, HF124 now awaits the Governor's signature to become law. The bill has been enrolled and is ready for the Governor’s review.
