By Alex Smith

Michigan lawmakers have sent HB 5636 to the governor after the bill passed both chambers, with the most recent action recorded on May 19, 2026. The bill would designate a portion of Telegraph Road as the "Deputy Claude Wilson Memorial Highway" by adding a new section to the state's highway memorial designation law, 2001 PA 142.

The bill was sponsored by Rep. Jason Hoskins along with 25 co-sponsors. In the House, it passed on May 14, 2026, by a vote of 104 yeas to 0 nays with 6 members not voting, and was given immediate effect. On May 19, the House passed the bill again with immediate effect following a referral to the Committee on Veterans and Emergency Services (source: https://openstates.org/mi/bills/2025-2026/HB5636/).

The bill now goes to the governor, whose signature would enact the designation into law.
