Underground petroleum storage tank reimbursement program passes and heads to governor

Minnesota HF 3298 has passed both chambers of the Legislature and was presented to the governor on May 20, 2026. The bill would establish a reimbursement program for underground petroleum storage tank systems that use pressurized single-walled steel piping.

The bill was sponsored by Rep. Mekeland along with five co-sponsors. The House passed it on May 7, 2026, by a unanimous 128-0 vote. The Senate took up the bill after receiving it from the House on May 11, passed it on third reading on May 16 and returned it to the House that same day before it was sent to the governor.
