Minnesota SF 1943 passes both chambers, heads to governor for signature
Minnesota SF 1943 has passed both chambers of the Legislature and is now heading to the governor for action. The bill, titled "Pet shops prohibition from selling cats and dogs," would bar pet shops in the state from selling cats and dogs.
The bill was sponsored by Sen. Dibble along with 20 co-sponsors. In the House, the bill was amended and passed on May 17, 2026, following a committee report on May 16 recommending adoption as amended. A House amendment vote on May 17 recorded a 67-67 tie, which failed, but the bill itself was subsequently passed on third reading as amended. Prior to floor action, a motion to re-refer the bill to Ways and Means was made on May 14 but the motion prevailed before the bill advanced to the calendar. The bill now goes to the governor, who may sign it into law, veto it, or allow it to become law without a signature.
